About this tool

Free port checker. Probe a hostname or IP and a port to see whether it is open and accepting connections from the public internet.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'open' mean?

The TCP connection was accepted, so something is listening and your firewall allows it from the internet.

Why is my port closed?

Either no service is listening on it, or a firewall is dropping the connection — from the outside the two look the same.

Can I check a host I do not own?

Yes, it is a passive connectivity check, but only scan hosts you are authorised to test.
